Business On the Web by Trina Johnson Learning how to do fast keyword research is an online marketer's holy grail. Yes, there are several robust keyword research tools available for purchase, but some of them are so robust, doing a quick down-and-dirty search is almost impossible. They are just too comprehensive.
So if you are in a hurry and don't want, or can't, invest in a tool, here's the quick method. First, sign into your Google account and open up the Google Adwords Keyword Planner (under the Tools tab). Choose the “Search for new keyword or ad group.” In the box under Product or Service, type in as many words or phrases you can think of that relate to your topic. Hint: phrases with 3 or more words are often more successful that single words. Make sure you select United States and English under targeting if they are not already selected. Hit “Get ideas.” On the next page, at the top you'll see charts of search volumes. Underneath the charts is a box with two tabs – the first is ad groups and the second is keyword ideas. Choose keyword ideas. On the next page, you'll see the words you typed in and their estimated monthly search volume and a Google determination if there is high, medium, or low competition. In the second box are words and phrases Google believes may also be related to what you are looking for. The first step now would be to sort your keyword ideas by the competition level. You only want to target “low” competition words and phrases unless you have a strong SEO program. Look at the number of searches and eliminate any that are zero monthly searches and any over 20,000 monthly searches. The “sweet spot”is typically a word or phrase that has between 2,000 and 10,000 monthly searches with low competition. But sometimes, those words that only have 50 searches can be gold because if you can be on the first page of search results for those 50 people and your product is exactly what they are looking for, 50 searches may be all you need. Once you've selected your top two or three words or phrases, don't stop yet. There's one more step. Open up a Google search box. Type in this phrase: “allintitle: YOUR SELECTED KEYWORD” When you hit submit, you'll get a list of what Google has actually indexed for that keyword. Look at that listing. If you see blogs, articles, and videos from “regular” people and not major institutions, you've got a winning phrase. So give this fast keyword research method a try. Your search rankings will improve with just a little effort. http://Mirellietc.com Trina@Mirellietc.com
