This may sound cliché, but there is no doubt in my mind that one of the most important things we can focus on achieving in this lifetime is discovering our passion. So many people in our society are working jobs that they hate to make money and take care of themselves and their loved ones. I used to be one of them.
In the past I have struggled and even resisted the basic laws of attraction because it just seemed too easy! My scientific and analytical mind found it difficult to digest such a simple spiritual approach to purpose and happiness. The moment that really changed everything for me was when I was ready to throw my hands up and say “I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE!” I want to make it clear that I have only just begun to get the hang of this process. In my thirty-something years I have experienced so much loss. In one year alone, I fell ill, went through a divorce, lost my job, and lost nearly all of my personal belongings. It felt like the world was out to get me, and in my mind, I was a victim of my circumstances. I asked all the usual self pity questions: “am I cursed?” and “why me?” But it was out of this loss and depression that the monumental changes in my life emerged.
I’m sure you’ve been there. It feels like you’ve hit the proverbial brick wall and you can’t do anything about it, just sitting in the same spot spinning your wheels; doing the same things over and over expecting a different result. I was at the brink of insanity when I made the transition from playing the role of ‘the victim’ to that of ‘the observer.’ I made the shift when I finally started taking responsibility for my situation in life; realizing not only my ability to create the life that I want, but the one that I needed to finally be happy! When you’re seeing your life from the observer’s perspective, you are able to assess the situation more objectively, and with less emotion. This leads to increased happiness, motivation, and discovery of your passion!
To be clear, I am not implying inaction when I refer to the Law of Attraction and the power of emotions. Quite the opposite. It goes back to the old saying: “you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?” There is no waiting around for things to magically fall into your lap once you have a positive attitude; it is your duty to work hard and follow through, even when you experience setbacks and failure. Learn to have gratitude for these bumps in the road; each set back is crucial in gaining life experience and adaptability.
The thing you are conquering is not the world; it’s your own mind. By taking control of your thought processes, you can begin to filter out all forms of negativity whether they are emotional (jealousy, anger, hate), situational (leaving the menial job), or even the presence of negative people in your life. A huge part of my shift was the painful but necessary process of removing certain people and habits from my life that were detrimental to my pursuit of happiness. Eventually, you will be able to transmute those negatively charged people and situations into drive, determination and focus. Like Rumplestiltskin spun straw into gold, you will take those things which once drained you, and use them instead to propel you further on your journey to discovering your soul’s purpose! The emotion of happiness is akin to positivity and it will radiate out of you like a beam of light in the darkness. Opportunity and abundance are attracted to this light, and that is where the magic happens (and yes it is also where the money comes in).
Today, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And you can change your course and find your passion, just like I have. Once you have taken all of these steps, it’s just like learning an instrument or exercising a muscle. It will get easier and easier to control the mind and put it to work for you instead of letting it work against you!
Three years ago I moved to Charleston, SC because I dreamed of living at the beach and working in the creative arts. It is here that I discovered my soul’s purpose and passion… the fire that ignited my heart. Several books and movies also fanned the flames.
Here is a list of the books and authors that have highly influenced me during my personal awakening process:
Also here is list of movies that helped me to shift my perspective on life.
