Kiss + Tell: Kiss Your Excuses Goodbye - I'll Tell You How

We as humans and business owners can count on two things: We are all getting older and, our business will go through ups and downs.

That’s nature. Just like gravity is.

And there is nothing we can do about it! Or is there?

None of us can stop the ageing process. But what we can do is stop the ‘process of decay’.

We Germans like to put it this way: If you rest, you rust!

None of us can stop the extrinsic factors that causes fluctuation in our business. Think snow resorts without snow, summer cafes without sun, nonstop rain for outside sales jobs, reports of a doomed economy etc.

But what we can do is decide how we are going to react to these occurrences.

Many of us slow down when we get older and blame increased age and decreased fitness levels for not being able to run, ski, skate, surf, bike or handle business like we used to!

As a lifelong fitness nut I have a hard time relating to any of these. I just entered official midlife – I turned 51 a few weeks ago- and for the fourth time in my life I made a serious career switch, as videographer!

Slowing down? Not me!

Too old to teach this dog new tricks (aka filming and editing)? No way!

Not fit enough to go on location, carrying heavy equipment? Not this woman!

Our most valuable asset is our health!

We look after our homes, our cars, our computers and our cell phones. Why not after our health?

Open a health magazine, read any kind of health related book and writers and researchers around the world come to the same conclusion: Physical activity is the No.1 preventer of all things evil! Stress related illnesses, diabetes, obesity, depression, anxiety, and lack of energy to name a few!

If we work on our health we at least have the strength to weather our private and business related storms!

Exercise clears the mind, builds stamina, makes us feel good, builds muscle mass, helps with digestion, can assist in weight loss, can prevent osteoporosis, builds self-esteem, helps in the prevention of household accidents, and helps us to sleep better-among lots of other benefits.

It doesn’t take much to get and stay in shape. To get healthy!  You owe it to yourself and to your (future) business!

Start with making the decision to exercise more! Choose an activity you thoroughly enjoy! Make exercise part of your daily routine. Schedule it into your to-do-list. Treat it like an appointment with your best client! Celebrate your small accomplishments! Find an accountability partner if you need to! Exercise can be as simple as going for a brisk walk twice a day. Or using the stairs!

Stay in shape. Move! Make time to exercise! Otherwise you later need to make time to be sick!

With an exercise regime in place you will never tell yourself again I’m too old! Or I don’t have enough energy! Guaranteed!
