Today don’t think, just do! We don’t always have to attach to our thoughts when making business decisions. It is more important we attach to our emotions, but typically we try and keep those at bay while we attach to our thoughts ABOUT our emotions! It’s very convoluted. What if we used emotions, not our thoughts about our emotions, to drive our business decisions? I’m suggesting most of them would probably be on cue.

What if we moved forward only when we were experiencing happy emotions, and sat completely still when we were sad? What if we just slept when we were indifferent? Everyone intuitively knows we tend do things more easily when we are in a state of joy. This is probably something worth paying attention to! Emotions are our drivers, and heated emotions take us even farther faster---you choose the direction. Try it out sometimes. Notice how far you get when you are in alignment with your emotions. Emotional competency comes from being able to weather the storms of the ups and downs of business cycles and not being reactive, but responsive. You do need to respond to continue to move energy, but you don’t need to react. Reaction occurs rashly and sometimes involuntarily. Response can be calculated, and even withheld.

So try looking at the ups and downs of your business cycles differently. Instead of reacting to a positive growth cycle with unbridled emotion, notice the emotions that are occurring naturally: excitement, pride, anxiety, fear---and respond to those EMOTIONS accordingly. Put them in their place, and let your next move continue to be in alignment with your final destination. Getting off path even one degree can set off a spiral of energy in the wrong direction, eliciting a whole new sense of direction and leading to many more outbursts of emotions that take off with fueled propulsion to somewhere you never meant to go; all because of some thoughts, some emotions, and some ill placed reactions. Don’t react! Simply respond with your best self, guided by your organic emotions, and in alignment with your final destination. You’ve got this!
