Getting your new business off to a good start is a long and tedious process. You will be completely enveloped with the project at hand, and this may sometime keep you from taking care of the things that matter most: your family, your heath, your friends, and your sleep. Of course, starting a business and creating your own form of income is a huge dream for many people around the world, but none of the money or time is worthwhile if you are not balanced in the journey. I have met numerous entrepreneurs that pride themselves on only getting 3 hours of sleep at night and working all weekend. Well, I have to say, “What’s the point?” If you start a company and within 2 years, you get burned out and sick from all of the late nights and stressful work conditions, then have you really gained anything? Here is my advice to starting a business right.

Get a good nights rest – This is so important to your health and well-being. Set up a time every night to quit. I typically set mine for 8:00pm so that I can have an hour or two to devote to my husband before bed. I enjoy waking up early, so getting up early, so getting to bed at a reasonable time helps me feel refreshed and with new ideas in the morning.

Exercise – Get out of your office and take a walk. Sometimes, when you are stuck on a project, the only thing that you can do to fix the problem is to walk away from it. Getting outside in the fresh air allows you to see things more clearly. Make sure you keep exercising throughout your week. Exercise increases your endorphins and helps you to feel happier throughout the day.

Eat a well balanced diet – Your body needs vital vitamins and minerals to keep you healthy and alert. If you eat chips and pop everyday, you are filling yourself with empty carbohydrates and zero nutrients. Take a least 20 minutes three times a day to make or purchase a healthy meal full of fruits, vegetables, and proteins. You will feel so much better when you feed your brain with the nutrients it desires.

Spend time with your friends and family – What is the point of life and the money that you hope to earn if you can’t share it with anyone? Take time every week to sit down to a nice dinner with a close friend or your family. If you have a spouse and kids, it is even more important to set aside time for them both. I promise that you will never regret the time that you spend with your loved ones.
