I have had a cold for the last several days.  You know stuffy, runny nose, scratchy, sore throat, coughing.  You know the drill.  An awful time?  Maybe yes, maybe no!  Do you remember hearing the this story? Or a version of it?

“A Chinese farmer gets a horse, which soon runs away. A neighbor says, "That's bad news." The farmer replies, "Good news, bad news, who can say?”
The horse comes back and brings another horse with him. Everyone is excited and congratulates him on his good fortune. “Good news, bad news.” the farmer replies.

The farmer gives the second horse to his son, who rides it, then is thrown and badly breaks his leg.
"So sorry for your bad news," says the concerned neighbors. "Good news, bad news, who can say?" the farmer replies.
In a week or so, the emperor's men come and take every able-bodied young man to fight in a war. The farmer's son is spared.”
My point being that sometimes something that might seem at first glance to be not good can turn out to be very good.
In my case because I was so out of it I really couldn’t do any work and meetings were out of the question.  So, instead I watched movies and slept.  Read and slept.  Did computer jigsaw puzzles and slept.
As a result I was suspended in time and it turned out to be really wonderful.  I was unable to worry or be concerned about anything.  I was totally relaxed in some ways.  By being in that space I had many, many insights and aha moments since my rational mind was out someplace but definitely not with me.
As I come back to the world again I have a very different point of view. My interactions with people are different as well.
Because of being sick I was not able to get my 2018 stickers for my car. So went today, the last day, to my fav, DMV in Mt. Pleasant still not feeling totally with it.  I learned they did not take credit cards and I didn’t have checks or cash with me.  They told me I could pay online right there.  And, since I am PC illiterate (a Mac person) they actually helped me.  But all the way through people were helpful and supportive since I obviously was not feeling very well still and they could see it. This at the DMV!!
I credit my vacation from the real world for all of this.  Sometimes the best strategy is to take a time out.  Hopefully, not with a cold or sickness but if that’s what gets you to do it then it’s worth it.  Our busy world ruled by our rational mind is not all there is, obviously.  In fact we miss a lot when we stay exclusively there. We need both. But you know which is out of balance.  So, what may seem like a very bad thing can turn out to be one of the best things that have happen to you.  “Maybe bad news, maybe good news!”

So looking at your life what things you thought were the worst things actually turned out to be the best?
My best to you,
Dianne
