SUCCESS & INSPIRATION for Entrepreneurs

There are lots of entrepreneurs and many accelerators but they don’t talk to one another.  Everyone seems to hold onto their turf.  I wonder what it would be like if they all worked together?  Why doesn’t that happen now?  What needs to happen to make this occur?  And, most importantly, what has been the impediment up until now?

It takes a lot to set up an accelerator or some of the other resource that help entrepreneurs. And entrepreneurs need a lot of help.  They need people who know what they are doing and who also have the entrepreneurs best interests at heart.  Many times someone starts out to help and then with all of the pressures that are applied when someone does something out of the ordinary they often lose focus.  The entrepreneurs are the ones who suffer.

But if accelerators team up the pressures wouldn’t apply.  The pressure often comes from a sense of competition.  Everyone trying to be at the top of the heap.  One of the wonderful things about this time is that the entrepreneurs themselves are embracing cooperation. They are helping one another by giving critiques, spending time talking over issues, supporting one another at events, etc.  They’ve got it right.  Now the people who are offering to help also need to learn teamwork.  Working together is the answer to almost everything.

What would that look like?  All of the accelerators could focus on a particular kind of help. Entrepreneurs could go from one to another for specific kinds of expertise.  With that in place entrepreneurs wouldn’t be confused about what to choose and they’d get the help they actually need.

It would keep the accelerators focused on what’s actually needed and not focused on survival or trying to be the best of the best.  Everyone suffers when that becomes their focus.

Every resource has it’s place in the entrepreneurial community.  With cooperation they could team up to help entrepreneurs thrive and therefore, the accelerators would also thrive by not having to try to outdo one another.

When I think about cooperative education I think about the original Iroquois schooling  their young.  Or, at least as it relates to the Seneca. Before white people came their children went from one tribe to another to learn specific skills. These are not the exact tribes but it was something like this:  For mathematics they would travel to the Bear Tribe, for geography to the Eagle Tribe, etc.  The children would travel from tribe to tribe where they would be with relatives and would be welcomed in as family as they learned a specific skill.  Once the white people came they imposed their own kind of educational system on the Seneca and things changed.

The point being there was no competition.  The reason for all of it was to really educate the young.  So, the point of all the accelerators is to help the entrepreneurs.  If the entrepreneurs could go from one accelerator to learn one thing really well and then to the next if they needed to learn another skill it would end up with a well-rounded entrepreneur and with the number of entrepreneurs who would be signed up with them each accelerator would each thrive.

Just a thought.

How are you feeling competitive?  And, how could you change that to cooperation? Worth thinking about.

My best to you,
Dianne
