Why Do You Work?

Why do you work? Do you love what you do? Do you feel fulfilled or joyous after an 8-hour day at work?

If you say yes to all of these questions, you are certainly the minority. Americans have been programed through education to be “hard-workers,” or at least I was.

I sought my entire life to be the hardest worker whether it was in school, on the basketball court, or at work. But what did any of my hard work get me? Yes, I have a “great” job according to the United State’s standards, but am I truly doing what my heart and mind long to? Not normally…

So the question comes down to, “why am I working so hard?” “What is my goal in accomplishing this task?”

Thankfully, I was blessed with the realization long ago that I needed a goal in mind for me to truly be happy at a job. I work so that I can play. I have made sure never to work just to work. I need a goal in mind so that I know that I am working for a goal bigger than myself and bigger than the task at hand.

So, what are you working for? Is your goal to pay off debt, save for that new car, put your kids through college, or is it ever just to increase the money sitting in your bank account?

Please make sure that you have a definitive answer to this question.

Humans were meant to do so much more than just routine. Dream!! Please, get out and come up with a reason to live your life.

When this next paycheck comes, what are you going to do with it? I am challenging you this month to use some of that money. You can’t take it with you when you die, so why are you holding onto it so tightly? What is that goal or desire that you have longed to complete but just don’t feel like you have the finances or time to do? Take some of your money this month and spend it!

Feel the liberation of doing what your heart longs to do, live! Society started working so that they could provide for their daily needs, but we have gotten so engrossed with just working that we have forgotten the goal that it was intended for. You have one life to live, so live it well. Enjoy the blessings that you receive.

Pass this information on too, so that we can all come up with a reason to work at our jobs. Our jobs should be exciting and make us feel like we are making a difference in the world or providing a need. Except the challenge this month, and enjoy!
